TEXTILE FUTURE: DESIGN TRENDS FOR 2025-2026

03.10.2024 г.

For many seasons now, at the “INTERFABRIC” exhibition, which this autumn was held as part of the Russian Textile and Light Industry Week simultaneously with the TEXTILE&HOME exhibition, visitors are offered a lecture on the main trends in textile design for the coming season. And it is very popular – some visitors even come specifically to listen to a business program for its sake. This is not surprising, because Alexandra Kaloshina, a long–time partner of exhibitions, the founder of Solstudio Textile Group, an analyst, an expert in the textile industry, a teacher at the Stroganov Moscow State Agricultural University, a lecturer at the Higher School of Economics (FCG), talks about new directions. In addition, Alexandra is the head of projects related to the restoration of the textile and ornamental heritage of Russia.

Knowing the trends of the future will allow artists, designers and manufacturers to create relevant prints, fabrics and finished products. Here is a short overview of the lecture, in which we will present the main points noted by Alexandra.

The expert raised the following issues: the disappearance of chrono normativity, the influence of trends on the fabric pattern; the hi vis trend – society is in danger or freedom from everything; fabric dyeing, the advent of new technologies; features of textile pattern in the AW 25/26 season; the importance of red – will red become neutral?

At the beginning of her speech, Alexandra Kaloshina asked those present to pay attention to the Trend zone of the exhibition, designed by Kirill Lopatinsky, a specialist in the field of display and emotional merchandising, designer and decorator - the trend zone was an example of the future development of design. And Alexandra accompanied her story with a clear and understandable presentation.

"The layers of the drawing appearing one through the other, abstract drawings are the difference of the season, as well as the reliance on themes from nature, the connection of man with nature, soil colors, erosion of the earth," the speaker noted one of the directions.

And at the same time, there is a completely different trend. "Sparkling – everything will shine in the new season, there will be a lot of light, shine," Alexandra stressed. – It's an extravagant style, movement, emotion. And, of course, this is not just a movement, but the rhythm of the drawing – it is very important. But the season is dark: colors, background – night themes prevail here: for example, a night garden and the movement of plants in it."

The theme of movement dominates other trends as well. For example, a hot desert, but with the movement of the wind carrying sand; playing fire, flowing lava…

"From year to year, from season to season, animalism remains in the trends," the expert said. – The trend for rare animals: lynx, possum, whose skin has a certain rhythm. Plant camouflage is a complete abstraction, a layering of elements."

Also, the movement is transmitted by shades and iridescences, refraction of the color of the crystal. This is the theme of a night rave, when residents of cities go outside and a real busy life begins, in which it is already difficult to figure out what is done by artificial intelligence and what is human.

"Hi vis – bright color and movement – our company's stand at the exhibition was made in this style. Explosive placement is a well–constructed abstraction that can also carry a semantic load. 3D volumes remained in trend. Decorating with a pattern, adding volume – it also reduces the cost of the product in production," concluded Alexandra.
