Modern fashion is moving towards sustainability, and more often, natural fabrics are appearing both on the runway and in ready-to-wear stores. Today, cotton, linen, and wool are among the most favored materials. However, more exotic textiles can also be found. For example, Ramie fabric, which has a long history but has only recently started gaining widespread use. The fashion trend for this material is just beginning to gain momentum. It is a rather rare fabric woven from processed nettle fibers, specifically from white or Chinese nettle—Boehmeria nivea. Another popular fabric today is Dewspo, which features a polymer coating that gives it excellent water-repellent and windproof properties. These and other new arrivals were presented at the booth of Reava, a regular exhibitor at the "INTERTKAN" exhibition. Company director Yulia Sazonova shared insights into Reava’s work.
– Yulia, what are the main areas of focus for your company?
– Our company specializes in the procurement and sale of fabrics. Our suppliers are based in Turkey, Italy, Korea, and China. We also have an accessories division that includes buttons, zippers, and twill tapes—some of our most in-demand items, although our range is quite extensive. Our fabric selection covers both first and second layers, including cotton, batiste, viscose, and linen. We also offer suiting fabrics, rainwear materials, quilted fabrics, sheepskin-like materials, and coat fabrics. Additionally, we quilt insulated rainwear fabrics, which allows us to produce jacket materials. All our production is based in Moscow. We also operate our own sublimation printing facility, where we apply prints to synthetic materials, including rainwear, suiting, and coat fabrics.
– What new products have you brought to the exhibition, and which of them could become bestsellers?
– One of our top-selling fabrics is Dewspo. It is a lightweight rainwear and jacket fabric made from 100% polyester. Thanks to its polymer coating, it offers excellent water-repellent and windproof properties. The plain-weave construction of polyamide threads makes it both lightweight and durable, ensuring high resistance to wear. Its density ranges from 85 to 240 tex. Today, the market offers a wide variety of Dewspo fabrics, featuring different textures—glossy, velvety, and matte.
Among our new arrivals, the standout is the exceptional Ramie fabric, made from nettle. This material is currently gaining popularity, with many well-known brands and designers incorporating it into their collections. Nettle fabric is eco-friendly, requiring minimal maintenance during cultivation and not depleting the soil. Additionally, clothing made from nettle does not irritate the skin—it is hypoallergenic and breathable. Furthermore, Ramie effectively regulates body temperature, preventing overheating or excessive cooling. This textile fiber is derived from the Boehmeria Nivea plant, commonly known as Chinese nettle. Ramie is most frequently used for sewing lightweight summer clothing with relaxed silhouettes, such as sundresses, dresses, trousers, and light jackets. It takes dye well, and due to its hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties, Ramie is often chosen for home textiles and children's clothing.
Ramie can be found both in its pure form and blended with other fibers. It is commonly mixed with viscose, cotton, synthetic materials, silk, and wool.
Another fabric that caused a sensation this season is a suiting fabric with diagonal weaving and embroidered bees. This textured fabric has a design somewhat reminiscent of the Gucci brand. It has a density of 370–390 g/m² and consists of 98% polyester and 2% elastane.
– How would you evaluate your participation in the "INTERTKAN" exhibition?
– We have been participating in "INTERTKAN" exhibitions for five years now, sometimes even twice a year. We are well recognized, and our long-standing partners visit us regularly. Of course, we also manage to connect with new clients. It is rewarding to see that people attend these exhibitions not only to find suppliers but also for inspiration and to explore new fabric trends. From this perspective, exhibitions like these are truly valuable. We certainly plan to continue attending "INTERTKAN" in the future.
